Here are 10 behaviors of dogs that you might want to know:
1. Aggression
- Is the most common and most serious behavior problem in dogs. Being aggressive means combative readiness, dogs are being aggressive when they are protecting something or someone. When dogs are aggressive the acts that they show are: snarling, lunging forward or charging at the person with no contact or guttural bark that sounds threatening. There are a lot of actions to see if your dog is aggressive and this is not a bad thing because it is normal to dogs, because they are protectors.
2. Food guarding
- Isn’t it weird that dogs always guard their food? Guarding possessions from humans or other animals is normal behavior for dogs. Wild animals who successfully protect their valuable resources, such as food, mates and living areas are more likely to survive in the wild than those who don’t. Resource guarding in dogs can range from relatively benign behavior, Dogs vary in what they consider valuable. Some dogs only guard chew bones or toys. Food guarding doesn’t need to be treated.
3. Howling
- Dogs howl because this is one of their vocal communication. They also howl when they want to caught some attention, to make contact with others or howl in response to high-pitched sounds, such as emergency vehicle sirens or musical instruments. There is also a bad sign if your dog is doing a, Separation Anxiety Howling, this is when your dogs howls when it is alone and this shows that they are in distress. Dogs sometimes howl when they’re hurt or sick. If your dog starts howling or howls more than usual, take him to a veterinarian.
4. Destructive chewing
- We all know that it is normal for dogs to chew things. But why do this? For young dogs, they chew to relieve the pain of the incoming teeth. While for older dogs, the chew to strengthen their jaws and to have clean teeth. But when your dog is starting to chew your couches, shoes and other things. The experts believe that this behavior results from having been weaned too early (before seven or eight weeks of age). Other thing is when your dog is on a calorie-restricted diet might chew and destroy objects in an attempt to find additional sources of nutrition. So you might to pay attention on your dog’s food.
5. Facing the wall
- Have you ever seen your dog facing or staring on the wall or pressing their head on the wall? You should be concern about this kind behavior, because this is not normal to dogs. If your dog is staring at the wall, dog dementia is a possibility. And if your dog is head pressing on the wall this means they have canine conditions. Among them are brain tumors, head trauma, encephalitis, nervous system infection, exposure to toxins or poisons and metabolic issues. Dog head pressing may also result from a vascular accident, better known as a stroke. So if your doing this you better immediately bring them to the veterinarian.
6. Circling
- When dogs are playing sometimes they circle around and chase their tails. But dogs who can't stop walking in circles may have a health issue. But if your pup can't shake the compulsion. Ear infections may cause circling, but compulsive tail chasing may occur with bull terriers and for older dogs may suffer from idiopathic vestibular syndrome, and, not to alarm you, but all dogs are at risk for poisoning or a brain tumor.
7. Digging
- Dog dig for many reason. They dig to escape, to track something or simply because they hide their important things such as bones! But dogs also dig inside your house right? They do that on your furniture or blankets before napping or sleeping.
8. Eating feces
- it can be a normal (while distasteful to us) dog behavior. It is very weird and disgusting when you see your dog eating their poop. But this has a certain meaning, this is maybe they are curious and smell certain scents in the feces. Eating feces is also an instinctive solution of nutritional deficiency and leads to malnutrition . So feed your dog properly and contact the veterinarian if your dog is losing weight.
9. Scooting
- This behavior is when your dog drag himself across the floor with his bottom. It may seem look funny or kind of disgusting. They do this because there’s something irritating on their anus. A dog who's a grass-eater, or likes to lick around the house, could have strands of grass or hair trapped in his anus that he's rubbing the ground to get out. This is the least-severe reason for scooting but the easiest for you to help him take care of.
10. Yawning
- Typically this means that your pup is sleepy and tired. But their yawn may also show sign of fear or stress. Do you also notice that your dog yawns when they are around a new person, your pup is either picking up vibes he doesn't feel comfortable with, or is fearful for a less-obvious reason.
